Detailed description of Cherry Hills Country Club, Championship Golf Course

Cherry Hills Country Club, is a Private, 27 hole golf facility located in Englewood, Colorado, a suburb south of Denver. The Club has two courses; they are the 18-hole Cherry Hills Championship Course and the 9-hole, par three, Rip Arnold Course.

The Championship Course was designed by William Flynn. The course first opened for play in 1922. A significant restoration by noted architect Tom Doak was carried out during 2008 and opened for play in spring 2009. The course was extended to over 7,500 yards and many trees were removed. In addition, several original bunkers that had been removed over the years were restored, bringing the course more in-line with William Flynn's original design.

The Championship Course is of a traditional design highlighted by small, fast greens and many trees lining its fairways.  Not only is hole #18 the signature hole, but locals consider this 491-yard, par 5, as the most difficult hole on the course.

Cherry Hills Country Club has been host to 10 major championships, including 1938, 1960 and 1978 U.S. Open, the 1941 and 1985 PGA Championship and the 1990 U.S. Amateur. Built in 1922, the course plays to 7,466 yards and a par of 71 for championship golf. At more than a mile above sea level, the course plays shorter than its yardage, but gives a golfer a false sense of security over the shorter earlier holes and then bursts into all its fury at the par-3 8th. The finishing holes are some of the most memorable in the state.

As of 2006, membership fees were reportedly set at $95,000.
